We are very excited about the new Loyola streetcar project which will be a great addition to the New Orleans CBD. However, while the RTA is building the 1.6 mile track, there will be traffic disruptions that you should know about.
Phase 1 consists of an approximately 30 – 45 day period starting on Monday, April 9. During that time Elk Place (riverside) between Tulane Ave. and Canal St. is closed to vehicular traffic. and Loyola Ave. (riverside) between Graver St. and Tulane Ave. will be open for local access only. On April 23, Loyola Ave. from Canal St. to Poydras St. will be closed to through traffic for a period of up to 45 days. Service lanes will be provided for local access only as follows: from Perdido St. to Tulane Ave. on the riverside of Loyola Ave. and from Tulane Ave. to Canal St. on the lakeside of Elk Place. Also, the existing traffic crossover at Poydras St. will be removed and the U-Turn between Girod St. and Poydras St. will be restored for access to the Hyatt and Platinum Parking.
Following completion of Phase 1, Loyola Ave. from Poydras St. to Canal St. will be opened to traffic with one lane of traffic in each direction on both sides of Loyola Ave./Elk Place. This phase will last up to 45 days.
Following completion of Phase 2, Loyola Ave. from Poydras St. to Canal St. will be opened to traffic with two lanes in each direction on both sides of Loyola Ave./Elk Place.
Please pay attention to the construction and changing traffic rules while in the CBD, and start looking forward to this terrific enhancement of our community.
