We are proud to congratulate our very own Helen Siegel for being recognized by the New Orleans Hornets for her work as the Co-Founder and President of Girls First. On April 14th, the Hornets awarded their annual New Orleans Hornets Community Assist Grant to Girls First for enriching communities in the Gulf South through Education, Health and Wellness while also being an inspiration to others to positively impact our communities.
Girls First is a 5O1-C 3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing sport and movement opportunities to undeserved girls in the metropolitan New Orleans area. Girls participating in the program attend a week long residential sports camp held annually on the Tulane University campus and are encouraged to attend monthly activities throughout the year. The week long camp features supervised instruction in swimming, team and individual sports, outdoor recreational activities, nutrition, and health education. Through year-round programming, girls are able to reinforce and build upon their newly acquired sports skills, develop positive body image, and learn to work in teams. Activities promote and encourage relationships between the girls as well as with counselors and volunteers.
